Healthy Places, Healthy Lives

 

The Marmot Review Team is providing support to the sites taking part in the Healthy Places, Healthy Lives programme, aimed at addressing the recommendations of Sir Michael Marmot's Review of Health Inequalities in England post 2010.

The Review Team is supporting and inputting into the sites' strategies to reduce health inequalities. The team is delivering intensive support to five of the sites, including providing evidence and facilitating implementation of projects to reduce health inequalities. Pilot projects are under way, with specific input from the Marmot Review Team. There have been innovative approaches implemented in the sites including:

 

Kirklees

A 'Making the Most of Marmot' health inequalities event was held as part of the Healthy Places, Healthy Lives national health inequalities programme of which Kirklees is a partnership site. The event brought together 57 senior stakeholders made up of representatives from the Wellbeing and Health Steering team, the Children's Trust, the Infant Mortality Co-ordinating group and the former Adults and Healthier Communities Local Public Service Board.

Stoke-on-Trent

• Implementation of a community-led social action for health through the setting up of a Community Action Group (CAG)
• This programme is aimed at empowering the community through funding, training and the support of local service providers, including the fire services the NHS and the air cadets. The CAG itself will develop and deliver interventions.
• Interventions will focus on the community's priorities as defined by the CAG and will address the wider determinants of health in order to deliver youth smoking prevention and cessation. Click here to download the poster.

Warwickshire

• The implementation of health at work surveys which capture information on the social determinants of health and dimensions of health inequalities at work.
• The Review Team is currently providing evidence to the site in order to deliver a 'spread' of health information from staff to their social networks and the wider community, as well as promoting the health check programmes from the organisations involved to other local employers. Luton Borough Council and NHS Luton are working together to strengthen partniership working to enable a more efficient and effective approach to tackling childhood obesity through the wider determinants of health. Click here to download the poster.

Lincolnshire

There are a number of HPHL initiatives in Lincolnshire

- Working with the Lincolnshire Harm Reduction Management Board to look at harm from alcohol use. Click here to download the poster.
