This month, Michael Marmot went to Australia and New Zealand to visit a number of organisations and programmes that are tackling the social determinants of health. He has written two blogs about his time there, one on the New Zealand Medical Association, and one on Maori Health. We will soon publish one on this time in Australia's Northern Territory.

In the last month, there have been a number of news articles and other programmes that mention the Marmot Review:
- Michael was interviewed by Ben Goldacre on the BBC Radio 4 programme 'from cradle to grave' about the importance of a life course approach.

Welcome to the July edition of the Marmot Review Newsletter. Since the last update there have been a number of additions to the website, as well as continued work by the Marmot Review Team.

Website Update
There are a number of new updates to the website, including: This month's 'think piece' in the GMC's Review of Good Medical Practice, written by Michael Marmot, on what doctors can do to tackle health inequalities. 2 new blog entries written by Michael:
- The first is about our fuel poverty report, which you can read more about below.
- The second focuses on health inequalities, 'ObamaCare', and Freedom, inspired by Michael's visit to the American Medical Association.
The presentations page of the website has been updated with two new Marmot Review Team presentations available to download - one about tackling the housing and health divide, and the other about ethnicity and mental health. Finally, this month Professor Peter Goldblatt and Dr Jessica Allen were called to give evidence to the Health Select Committee inquiry into public health, you can watch the session here.

Fuel Poverty Report
Following the publication and launch of 'The Health Impacts of Fuel Poverty & Cold Homes', there was news coverage and discussion in parliament about the report. The Marmot Review Team has continued to disseminate the findings of this report by speaking at a number of events including:
- The London Assembly Health and Public Services Committee enquiry into Fuel Poverty
- The Department of Health/Health Protection Agency round table discussion on the cold weather plan
- The European launch of the report, hosted by the European Climate Change Network
- The Socialist Health Association and Labour Housing Group conference - 'Tackling the Housing and Health Divide'
European Review
The third meeting of the European Review of Social Determinants and the Health Divide in the WHO European Region took place on 6th and 7th June in Chisinau, Moldova, funded by the Norwegian Directorate of Health.
Task group work and the emerging themes and conceptual framework of the Review were discussed. The meeting also provided an opportunity for us to meet individuals doing some valuable work on the social determinants of health in Moldova at a workshop held at the State Medical & Pharmaceutical University "Nicolae Testemitanu", and visit youth-friendly health centre “Neovita”.
